Palermo, 1993.
Sicily’s streets are soaked in blood as an ongoing Mafia war claims the lives of criminals and the innocent alike. After decades of mob-related murders, and with little more than street-level arrests to show for it, the Sicilian government moves to take down the bosses of two rival families who are fighting for dominance under the rising pressure of the law.
In the eye of this storm is Saverio Barone, a young and ambitious provincial prosecutor with the guts to stand up for what’s right. When he dares to report his own boss, his colleagues disapprove but the chief of Palermo’s Anti-Mafia Pool takes notice and appoints Barone to his unit. Obsessive, fearless and uniquely equipped for the job, Barone will go down in history as Il Cacciatore, “The Hunter”, and thanks to a succession of brilliant hunches, spectacular raids and front-page arrests, three hundred Mafiosi will be taken into custody.
This is the incredible and untold story of Sicily’s “hunting season” of the 1990s.
